Who Needs Roscoe's When We Got Russell's!

After spending a week back in the Mecca of Chicken N Waffles I had a mean hankering for this dynamic duo.
Though in Cali you have to go to the hood to get some of Roscoe's famous Chicken and Waffles, here in Nola you gotta go to Lakeview. Lakeview is just about the antithesis of the hood, so it is pretty ironic that Russell's Marina Grill (a favorite among Metairie elderly) serves up this semi-stigmatized dish. But damn do they do it well! Russel would make Roscoe proud, if he wasn't stealing his business. No need to fly all the way out to LA for this breakfast, we got it in our own back yard! To read more about Russell's fried chicken and waffles check out my article for OffBeat Magazine: Chicken n Waffles: Watch Out, Roscoe.
If you're more or a traditional breakfast person Russell's also has great sausage and poaches their eggs just right!
Not to mention their bangin sweet potato pancakes! I'm drooling just looking at this pic. For more information read Chicken n Waffles: Watch Out, Roscoe.

The Breakfast Club

Saturday morning is notorious for three things, cartoons, hangovers, and my favorite... breakfast! Whether it's sugar cereal or gourmet eggs Benedict, people tend to give themselves more time to enjoy this lovely meal over the weekend. Mackenzie, Gavin and I used to have a pretty consistent Saturday morning feasting ritual, involving eggs, bacon and all the appropriate fixins. This lovely tradition tapered off a bit in the past few months but the Breakfast Club is back! And better than ever! Today I am showcasing a truly phenomenal creation.
This superb sandwich was crafted with love, hunger, and resourcefulness. After purchasing some of the fluffiest milk buns I've ever had from Duong Phong Bakery we knew these chewy golden loaves had to be involved in our masterpiece breakfast.
Of course, eggs were the next addition to the forming sandwich. To spruce up the old fashioned sunny side up "dippy egg" (as Jenn calls it). Mackenzie topped it off with some lovely green onion and crushed black pepper.
After lightly toasting the doughy buns we sauteed some onion and grilled apple Gouda sausage. Put it all together with a little ketchup and sriracha and you have absolute breakfast bliss.
But beware, if you're a messy eater like me you might end up with an EGGsplosion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dun dun dun... until next time fellow eaters.

Dat Dog!!!!!

Whether you like hot dogs or you thinks they're disgusting, I guarantee you will LOVE Dat Dog, the adorable new restaurant on Freret. They serve up 10 varieties of hot dogs and sausages (all for 6 bucks or less). On top of these succulent links they pile the complimentary condiments high. The beautiful picture speaks for itself. This hot dog was seriously orgasmic. This Louisiana Hot Sausage is topped with horseradish, creole mustard, onions, chives, and diced tomatoes. This darn thing was so delicious I seriously found myself silent for just about the entire time I spent eating it. That good. Honestly the best part was the sourdough bread. So soft and squishy, the perfect amount of chewiness and fluffiness, it was like the best piece of bunny bread you could ever wish for, a little cloud like puff of sourdough goodness. I'm determined to find their bread supplier and make some bomb french toast, garlic bread, PB&J sandwiches, and texas toast with it. Definitely a new spot that everyone in the city should check out.
